The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume
Institute Gala is
one of thee biggest events for the fashion industry. The
Costume Institute annual fundraising Gala has been held at the Met since 1971
and is considered to be the fashion industry's premier annual red carpet event.
Anna
Wintour, Vogue editor-in-chief and chair of the
event since 1995, oversees both the benefit committee and the guest list, with Vogue
staffers helping assemble the list of invitees.
Each year the event has a theme (with dress code), and includes a cocktail hour and a formal
dinner. It also serves as an opening celebration for the institute's
annual fashion exhibit.
This year the fashion world joins in
celebration of Charles James, the American couturier whose work will be on
display as part of the retrospective exhibit, Charles
James: Beyond Fashion, at the newly renovated Anna
Wintour Costume Center.
In preparation of tonight’s event, I though it appropriate
to take a look back at, what I thought were some of the best looks. Here are just some of them.
Anna Wintour, Cara Delevingne, Karolina Kurkova
